Our Little Owl

goonies_l.jpgYou know my nightmares of birthing a six month old baby are coming true when those are the first words out of your OB/GYN’s mouth!

I went for my what-was-supposed-to-be-final ultrasound yesterday to determine the baby’s position, health and size — holy cow make way for the big boy! He is sized at 6 lbs 10 oz and I have five weeks left!

I was curious about the accuracy of the reading and my doctor stated that there is room for some “give and take.” Give and take aside, I’m still ranking in the 85th percentile (or so his print-out says), which means there are only 15% of women out there with a larger baby than myself at 35 weeks. Yikes!

I’ve talked to a bunch of Moms about my “hefty-baby” predicament — some were warned of a big baby only to end up birthing a 7 pounder. While other Moms claim their last last ultrasound being eerily accurate. So the jury is still out but what I do know is that those dreams of birthing a watermelon or in this case a 9 1/2 pounder seem to be coming true!

What this all means:

I will have another ultrasound in 2 weeks and Dr. Peppy, Danny and I will see where he is at and if it looks like I’m still on my way to Porky Town! We’ve got some options to discuss ranging from inducing early, elective c-section, pushing a 10 pound dumbbell out the old fashion way, etc.

I will keep the updates coming! Maybe we should name him Chunk.
