As a kid I took up whittling, hacking freshly ripped branches with a flimsy Walmart pocket knife. This probably lasted an hour and a half and then I moved on to the next great building idea I had. (some sort of fort or mini skateboard ramp).
I’ll get into the extent of my tomboy-ness another time, another post, but I’ll just say my Mom probably thought she had two sons for a while.
Anyway, despite my lack of patience to finish anything, I always loved wood. Who Doesn’t?! And for the past 5 months, I have spend at least an hour or two looking at baby gear online everyday, stuffing my bookmark folders with all sorts of finds that encompass my love for modern, wood or faux bois, and has the color brown in there somewhere. (Poor Daniel, he is such a good sport, especially when I open another website full of modern baby toys).
A couple days ago I stumbled upon this gem of an Etsy store.
The guy is 87 years old and makes some really beautiful vintage-esque wooden toys. They look fantastic, have a clean sensibility and best of all, are pretty affordable considering most of the trendy baby sites charge upwards of $60.00 for quality like this. Plus, I can’t help but think it makes the man smile everytime he mails out a rattle or toy car.
I wish more people kept old school skills alive.

Kaci,
I’m due July 19th, so I have about 5 1/2 weeks left to go.
its getting to that really uncomfortable stage and I’m just hoping I go early which I know rarely happens.
I’ll probably be sweatin’ it out at 42 weeks and ready to burst.
Yay for boys!! Boys Team ‘08 Thats awesome. We’re excited for you guys.
